On February, 24, 2008 The East Village Community Church will move to their temporary
location for the next two years, in the old San Diego Housing Authority Business Office on Newton Street. This church is the only one left in the Downtown San Diego area. The city has purchased the old building in which services have been held for the last eight years. Prior to that, the location was 930 10th Street where we were known as Inner City Baptist Church.

The city will demolish the whole block on which the church stands on the corner. The building will be replaced with low-income apartment housing and retail shops. Standing majestically on the corner of 14th street will be the new home of the East Village Community Church.

Dr. Jimmie F Hubbard and his wife, Rev. Jerri Hubbard have been Pastors at this church for over 25 years. They have been actively involved in keeping this part of the city alive and giving hope to the many that live there.

Dr. Hubbard himself has an amazing story – retired Navy, military police Academy Instructor, father, grandfather, great-Grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He has taught and been a part of the Southern California Seminary. He is well known for helping to launch many new congregations.

This congregation is very diverse. It is growing and looking forward to being able to serve
in an even more visible way. Congregation members come from all walks of life, and live throughout the San Diego County. Occupations range from teachers, nurses, small business owners, to Navy Chaplains. We are a small congregation at this time, but are a steady “lighthouse” for the people in the East Village Community.
